Which browsers and devices work?
A current Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on a laptop or desktop is the safest choice; phones work for most assessments but are not ideal.
Browsers. Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox works. Keep it updated — very old browser versions are the single most common cause of a screen that renders oddly.
Device. A laptop or desktop is best. The screens are designed for a wider display, reading is easier, and typed answers are quicker. Phones and tablets work for most assessments, but anything with long written responses, detailed exhibits or drag-and-drop is noticeably harder on a small screen.
Connection. A steady connection matters more than a fast one. Your answers save as you go, so a brief drop is not a disaster, but a connection that keeps dropping makes for an unpleasant hour.
Other things worth doing before you start:
- Close other heavy tabs and applications.
- Turn off notifications if you can — some assessments are timed.
- If the assessment uses your camera, allow access when the browser asks. Only proctored assessments request it, and the request is always visible.
