Value Articulation — Building the Buyer's Business CaseYour champion needs 'the ROI slide' for her CFO next week. You have not used her figures. What do you send?

Twenty situational-judgement scenarios on turning capability into a commercial argument the buyer can defend to their own finance function: business-case construction, honest benefit quantification and translating features into the buyer's language. Partial credit, three competencies, banded report.

30 minutesEvidence-keyed scoringGlobal · INR & USD

The number the buyer must defend is treated as the buyer's, not yours

A champion asks for the return slide before you have built a case from her figures; procurement sends a value template with fields for cost, licence count and term and nowhere to describe benefit; most of your value at a care provider is soft and the finance director openly discounts anything uncountable; a buyer keeps returning to a reporting feature unrelated to the problem he described an hour ago. Twenty scenarios, each with four moves a seller might make — send the standard slide, ask what threshold projects must clear, build from the buyer's own figures and flag the fragile assumptions, or model the strongest defensible outcome.

Options are scored on a 0–3 gradient with a written reason for each score. Distractors are the plausible shortcuts: the generic average from the deck, the number tuned to clear whatever threshold applies, the feature tour that follows the buyer's enthusiasm instead of his problem. Options that over-promise, conceal a cost the buyer will later carry, or inflate a number the buyer must defend internally score zero regardless of commercial effect. The bank is original, scenarios are sector- and country-neutral, and no branded value-selling method is named or implied.

The report bands Business Case Construction, Honest Benefit Quantification and Capability Translation separately, because a seller can build an elegant case on a number that will not survive the CFO, or quantify scrupulously in language the buyer cannot repeat. The AI-personalised narrative names the pattern in your 20 answers, the growth plan begins with the weakest competency, and the scenario review shows why the strongest defensible outcome scored zero while the honest case with flagged assumptions scored three.

Three competencies banded and interpreted

Business Case Construction, Honest Benefit Quantification and Capability Translation each return a band with a coaching note — what a Developing band on quantification does to a proposal when it reaches finance, and the habit most likely to fix it.

An overall score with a 70 per cent pass mark

A single 0–100 score with a band for hiring into roles where the seller writes the business case, and a pass mark so a manager knows whether a candidate's arguments will survive the buyer's internal review before they are made.

The shortcut you reach for, named

The strengths and development panel, generated from your own answers, says whether you default to the deck's average, tune the number to the threshold, or follow the buyer's enthusiasm away from his problem — so a manager coaches the habit and not the score.

Steps built from your weakest competency, then all 20 scenarios explained option by option, including how to handle a template with no room for benefit and what to do when the value is real but soft.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Value Articulation assessment measure?

Whether a salesperson can turn product capability into a commercial argument the buyer can defend to their own finance function: building a business case from the buyer's figures, quantifying benefit honestly including benefit that is real but soft, and translating features into the language of the buyer's problem rather than listing them. Three competencies across 20 scenarios. It is written for B2B sellers, account executives and presales staff, and for the managers hiring them.

How is it scored, and is a bigger return figure always better?

No. Options are scored on a 0–3 gradient with a written reason, and the option that models the strongest defensible outcome so the number clears whatever threshold the CFO applies scores zero, because the buyer must defend that number and cannot. Options that over-promise, conceal a cost the buyer will later carry or inflate a figure score zero regardless of commercial effect. Options are length-matched and the best answer moves position.

How long does it take and what is in the report?

Thirty minutes for 20 scenarios. The report is immediate and includes an overall score with band against a 70 per cent pass mark, three banded competencies with coaching interpretations, an AI-personalised narrative of strengths and development areas, a growth plan built from your weakest competency, and a review of every scenario with the reasoning behind each option. Everything is included; there is nothing further to unlock.

How do managers use this report for hiring and development?

At interview, hand the candidate a one-paragraph description of a buyer and ask them to sketch the business case aloud, then compare what they reach for with their Business Case Construction band. For development, put the seller's last three proposals beside the scenario review and mark where the number was tuned rather than built. A retake after a quarter of coached proposals shows whether the habit has moved.

Does it work outside India, and how is it priced?

Yes. The scenarios are sector- and country-neutral, the companies are fictional and the judgements — whose figures the case is built from, which assumptions the CFO will attack, what to do when the template has no room for benefit — are the same in any market with a finance function. It is priced in INR and USD, and the current price in both currencies is shown on this page.
