Competitive Positioning — Differentiating Without DisparagingTheir deployment genuinely takes four weeks. Yours takes twelve, for real reasons. What do you say?

Twenty situational-judgement scenarios on selling against named rivals and entrenched incumbents: differentiation tied to the buyer's priorities, displacing or defending an incumbent, and the honest answer when a competitor fits better. Weighted partial credit, three competencies, banded report.

Disparaging a rival scores zero even when it would win

Halfway through a first meeting the buyer says you are one of three and asks why you rather than the others; a competitor can genuinely deploy in four weeks against your twelve; with the decision imminent the incumbent offers a large price cut to stay; two people in the market have told you the rival is about to be acquired and nothing has been announced. Twenty scenarios, each with four things a seller might say — describe how you differ and let her judge, take her through your strongest areas, ask what matters most in her decision and answer against that, or claim the difference is service quality.

Options are scored on a 0–3 gradient with a written reason for each score. Distractors are the plausible reflexes: leading with your strengths before knowing her priorities, matching the incumbent's cut, softening the twelve weeks. Options that disparage a named competitor, repeat an unverified claim about a rival, conceal switching cost, or bid where the seller knows the requirement cannot be met score zero regardless of their effect on win rate. Competitors in the scenarios are fictional and unnamed; the bank is original, length-parity controlled and sector-neutral, and no branded competitive-selling method is named or implied.

Three competencies are banded separately — Differentiation Discipline, Incumbent Handling and Competitive Integrity — because a seller can differentiate precisely and still pass on the acquisition rumour, or hold the ethical line and never connect a difference to something the buyer cares about. The AI-personalised narrative names the pattern across your 20 answers, the growth plan starts from the weakest competency, and the scenario review explains why answering against her stated priorities scored three and the service-quality claim scored what it did.

Three competencies banded and interpreted

Differentiation Discipline, Incumbent Handling and Competitive Integrity each return a band with a coaching note — what a Developing band on incumbent handling does when the current supplier cuts price at the last minute, and the response that would have scored three.

Your competitive reflex, named

The strengths and development panel is generated from your own answers and says whether you lead with your strengths before hearing her priorities, match the incumbent's cut, or let an unverified rumour do your work, so coaching starts with the habit.

A growth plan from your weakest competency

Concrete steps ordered by impact: the question to ask before answering 'why you', the honest framing of a slower deployment, the response to a last-minute incumbent discount that does not become a price war.

Overall score, pass mark and full scenario review

A 0–100 score with a band and a 70 per cent pass mark for hiring, then all 20 scenarios reviewed with the reason each option scored what it did, including which options scored zero for disparagement or a concealed switching cost.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Competitive Positioning assessment measure?

How a salesperson behaves when there are rivals in the room: whether differentiation connects to what the buyer has said matters, how the seller displaces or defends against an entrenched incumbent, and whether they tell the truth when a competitor genuinely fits better or deploys faster. Three competencies across 20 scenarios. It is for sellers in crowded markets, for those who sell against or as an incumbent, and for the managers hiring them.

How is it scored, and is criticising the competitor ever the right answer?

Never in this bank. Each option is scored on a 0–3 gradient with a written reason, options are length-matched and the best answer moves position. Options that disparage a named competitor, repeat an unverified claim about a rival, conceal switching cost, or bid where the seller knows the requirement cannot be met score zero regardless of their effect on win rate. Competitors in the scenarios are fictional and unnamed.

How long does it take and what is in the report?

Thirty minutes for 20 scenarios in one sitting. The report arrives immediately: an overall score with band against a 70 per cent pass mark, three banded competencies with coaching interpretations, an AI-personalised narrative of strengths and development areas, a growth plan built from your weakest competency, and a review of every scenario with the reasoning behind each option. Everything is included; there is nothing further to unlock.

How would a manager use the report at interview or in coaching?

At interview, tell the candidate a rival deploys faster and ask what they would say to the buyer; compare it with their Competitive Integrity band. In coaching, use the scenario about the incumbent's last-minute discount as a one-to-one case and ask the seller what they did last time it happened. The growth plan is the next month's agenda; a retake after a quarter shows whether the reflex has changed.

Is it relevant outside India, and how is it priced?

Yes. Scenarios are sector- and country-neutral, competitors are fictional and unnamed, and the situations — why you, they are faster, the incumbent cuts price, the rumour — occur in every competitive market. No branded competitive-selling method is referenced. The assessment is priced in INR and USD, with the live price in both shown on this page.
