What are the alternatives to Mercer Mettl, and when is one actually a better fit?
Choosing an assessment platform is really two decisions: what you need measured, and how you want to pay for it. Mercer Mettl sells a broad enterprise suite quoted on request. AssessAll publishes a per-candidate price. Below is what each does, verified on the vendors' own pages, including the cases where Mettl is the better answer.

Mettl is part of Mercer, and buyers who want assessment bundled with workforce consulting are buying something AssessAll does not sell. AssessAll sells the instrument and the report.
The arithmetic to run before you shortlist either
The only comparison that survives contact with a quote is per-candidate cost, and you can compute AssessAll's side of it before talking to anyone, because the unit price is published.
Take the published credit cost of the sitting you would actually run, multiply by the credit price, then add the proctoring surcharge if you would use it. Those are list figures from /pricing and they are what checkout charges.
Now divide any quote you receive by the number of candidates it actually covers. If that figure comes in under ₹930 (US$15.50) per proctored sitting, the quoted platform is cheaper per candidate than AssessAll's list price and this page has just ruled AssessAll out. That is the arithmetic working correctly.
Why this page concedes first
A comparison written by one of the two vendors is self-interested, and a reader who has opened three of them already knows it. The only version worth publishing is one that states what the competitor is better at before it states anything else, names the situations in which you should not buy from the author, and shows the arithmetic that could eliminate the author's own product.

The structural difference, stated plainly
Mettl sells a broad enterprise suite — talent assessment, coding, proctoring, examinations, hackathons, virtual assessment centres — and prices it by quotation. AssessAll sells a narrower catalogue with a published unit price and no seat licence.
Neither model is better in the abstract. A licence wins on unit cost once volume is high and predictable, which is why enterprises sign them. Pay-as-you-go wins when volume is lumpy, seasonal or unknown, and when the finance question is "what does one more candidate cost" rather than "what is this year's budget".
The failure mode of a licence is under-use, and it is the expensive one. An annual allowance divided by the candidates you actually tested is the real per-candidate price you paid — and that denominator is published far less often than the price is. Ask any vendor quoting an allowance what happens to unused volume at renewal, and get the answer in the contract rather than in an email.
What to ask both vendors, in writing
The questions below are not rhetorical and none of them favours AssessAll. They are the ones whose answers change a shortlist, and they are worth sending to every vendor in the same email so the replies are comparable.
What is the per-candidate cost at my actual expected volume, and what happens to unused volume at renewal? Which certifications do you hold, with the certificate's scope statement and expiry date? Where is attempt data stored, where is proctoring imagery stored, and on what basis does either leave that location? Can I see a full sample report for the exact assessment I would run, before signing? What evidence do you have that this instrument predicts performance in a role like mine — a technical manual, a validation study, or a claim?
That last question is the one most likely to separate vendors, and it is the reason this site publishes an evidence index listing every primary source it argues from, including the ones that cut its own numbers.

How much does Mercer Mettl cost?
Mettl does not publish a price. Its pricing page, checked on 17 September 2026, is a quote-request form headed "Get Personalized Pricing for Your Customized Assessments" with a phone number and a product picker — no per-candidate rate and no plan tiers. Third-party sites publish estimates for it; those are not the vendor's figures and are not reproduced here.
Is AssessAll cheaper than Mercer Mettl?
That cannot be answered honestly, because Mettl publishes no price to compare against.
