Training Facilitation and Group Handling Assessment for Trainers and FacilitatorsThe room tells you what it needs. Almost none of it is said out loud.
Eight rooms described only by what happened in them, and a response strand scored entirely apart from the reading.
Every train-the-trainer course teaches delivery. Almost none of them measures the read.
Three people have asked every question and the rest have written nothing for twenty minutes. A group finished the exercise in half the time and is on its phones. Somebody said the method will not work in their department and three people nodded. Those are three different rooms with three different responses, and telling them apart is the skill.
Sixteen reads describe eight rooms by what they did rather than by what it means, and ask you to rate each on two dimensions. Your reads are scored against the SHAPE of the keyed profile rather than its level, so rating every room high or every room low costs you nothing and earns you nothing.
Twenty-eight further exercises ask what you would do. The two strands are never added together, because reading a room and responding to it are different abilities under different questions, and the interesting people are the ones who are strong at one and not the other.
That mismatch is the finding this instrument exists to produce. Strong reads with a general-purpose response is the common one and the easier to fix. Strong responses aimed at a misread room produce a confident session that keeps solving a problem nobody in the room has.
Every finding is written twice: what you would say about it, and what the room would notice. Both columns come from one data structure so they cannot drift apart, and both are for you, because the second audience is the group you stand in front of on Monday.
What you walk away with
Scored on shape, so where you sit on the scale is a separate fact rather than part of the figure.
Elevation and scatter printed beside the correlation, because they are findings about how you rate.
Chance-corrected against the authored answer priors, with its own error band, and never fused with the reading.
What the record supports and what you rated, on one short axis per dimension.
What you would say about it, and what the room would notice about it.
Drawn from whichever part of your own sitting was weakest, and small enough to do on Monday.
Inside your report
Illustrative sample — your report is generated from your own responses.
Scored by the shape of the reading rather than its level, so rating every room high costs you nothing and earns you nothing.
You change the structure rather than the volume, which is the only thing that reliably brings a room back.
They notice being asked to write or talk to each other, rather than being asked whether they are following.
Both columns come from one data structure, so they cannot drift apart, and both belong to you: the second audience is the group you stand in front of on Monday.
Built for
- Trainers and facilitators, internal and independent
- Subject experts who have started teaching what they know
- L&D teams choosing who runs which session and how to develop them
- Anybody who has run a workshop that went well by the plan and badly in the room

Frequently asked questions
No. It does not measure presentation, subject knowledge, how much a room likes you, or confidence in front of one. It measures the accuracy of your read of a group from what that group did, and separately the quality of what you would do about it.
Because they answer two different questions under two different instructions, and combining them would hide the finding. Somebody who reads a room well and responds generically needs something completely different from somebody with a strong repertoire aimed at the wrong reading.
It costs you nothing. The reads are scored by correlation, which is invariant to where you sit on the scale, so what counts is whether the rooms you rated high are the rooms the records say are high. Elevation is reported separately as a fact about how you rate.
The report says so and refuses the correlation rather than computing one. A flat set of presses has no shape to compare, and a figure computed on it would be describing our item order rather than your reading.
About forty-five minutes for forty-four exercises. ₹999 in India, inclusive of GST, or US$9.99 elsewhere, one time, for the sitting and the full report.
Each one takes a single capability, puts you inside the situations where it is actually tested, and scores your choices against published evidence — with a report designed for that capability alone, not a template. They span hiring, compliance, education, operations and personal skill.
Browse the catalogue →Methodology: Forty-four original exercises in two strands and six formats: sixteen keyed room reads on a six-point scale, fourteen situations with graded partial credit, four select-every-that-applies exercises, four keyed claims, three matching exercises and three most-and-least forced choices. The two strands carry two different response instructions and are therefore never combined into one figure: the reads ask what is happening in the room, which is a judgement about evidence, and the situations ask what the respondent would most likely do, which is a behavioural tendency. Construct statement: it measures the accuracy of somebody's read of a group from what the group actually did, and separately the quality of what they would do about it. It does not measure presentation skill, subject knowledge, likeability or confidence in front of a room, it is not a certification to train anybody, and it does not predict how a particular session will go. Read accuracy is scored as a profile-match correlation between the respondent's sixteen ratings and the keyed sixteen. A correlation is invariant to a linear shift, so a person who uses the top of the scale throughout and a person who uses the middle are compared on the shape of their reading rather than on where they sit, and neither elevation nor spread can earn or lose a point. Elevation and spread are still computed and reported beside the correlation, because they are findings of their own about how somebody rates. The flatness check runs on the raw presses rather than on any reversed or recentred value, because a respondent pressing the same button throughout otherwise acquires a shape that belongs to the authoring rather than to them. The eight keyed profiles were written to have genuinely different shapes, because a correlation against sixteen similar keys measures nothing. Half the read items are worded in the opposite direction so that agreeing with everything cannot produce an accurate profile. The response strand is chance-corrected against each item's own authored answer priors and reported with its own error band. Constructs and sources: adult learning and what a group brings into a room (Knowles on andragogy); psychological safety as the condition for a group speaking up, and silence as its absence (Edmondson); the distinction between observation and inference, and why a facilitator who cannot separate them cannot be corrected (the ladder of inference in the action science tradition; Argyris and Schon); group participation dynamics and the effect of structure on who speaks (nominal group and think-pair-share findings on turn distribution); interpersonal accuracy measured against a criterion rather than self-reported (Funder's realistic accuracy model; Cronbach on the components of accuracy in judging others, which is why elevation and differential accuracy are separated here); profile similarity by correlation rather than by distance, and its invariance to elevation; the post-prandial dip in alertness and the effect of a change of activity; and item-writing guidance from Haladyna, Downing and Rodriguez. All items are original works written for this instrument.
