Not a theory quiz — the room itself

Most teacher assessments test what you know about pedagogy. This one measures what you would actually do: a lesson unravelling in its first five minutes, a student swearing out of nowhere, a parent arriving angry, a colleague handing you a label for a child you have not met. Every option is something a caring teacher might defend — only one is best supported by the classroom-management evidence.

The Teaching Wheel is a new scoring design built on the interpersonal teacher-behaviour circumplex: every choice carries a hidden steering weight and a warmth weight, so the report plots the style you actually run a room with — and whether it sits in the high-structure, high-warmth zone the research keeps finding in effective teachers.

A separate Prevention Index reads whether you manage behaviour before it happens or after it explodes, keyed to the routines and withitness research from Kounin to Marzano.

Four practices of classroom craft, each measured by at least six independent scored exercises:

What you walk away with

Your position on the Teaching Wheel

Steering and warmth plotted on an eight-sector interpersonal wheel — Directing, Supportive, Understanding, through to Enforcing — with the zone verdict the classroom research cares about.

A Prevention Index

Whether your instincts manage the room before problems exist — routines, transitions, task design — or after they arrive. Prevention is the cheapest skill in teaching, and the most learnable.

Craft across four practices

Preventive structure, behaviour response and de-escalation, engagement and inclusion, and parent-colleague partnership — each scored from at least six exercises with banded interpretations.

A consistency read

Paired situations with different cover stories test whether your responses are stable habits or in-the-moment reactions — the difference between a method and a mood.

Homework that fits in a fortnight

Two concrete moves per weak area, drawn from the evidence base — trackable in your own classroom within two weeks.

Inside your report

Illustrative sample — your report is generated from your own responses.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Classroom Management & Teaching Judgment assessment measure?

Four practices: preventive structure and routines, behaviour response and de-escalation, engagement and inclusion, and parent-colleague partnership. It measures what you would actually do in 20 realistic classroom situations, plus select-all, data-reading and self-check exercises — not what you know about pedagogy theory.

How is it scored?

Every scenario option carries a graded quality score keyed to published classroom-management evidence, plus hidden steering and warmth weights that plot your style on an eight-sector Teaching Wheel, and a proactive-reactive weight that builds your Prevention Index. Paired scenarios test consistency.

Who is it for?

Practising teachers, teaching candidates, schools screening applicants, and teacher-training providers. It suits any level from primary to senior secondary because the situations are about managing people, not subject content.

How long does it take and what do I get?

About 30 minutes for 31 scored exercises. You get a full report with your Teaching Wheel position, Prevention Index, four practice scores with interpretations, a consistency read, and a fortnight of homework — downloadable as a colour PDF.

How much does it cost?

₹649 in India (including GST) or US$6.99 elsewhere, one-time, for one full sitting and report. Schools and training providers can run it for cohorts through AssessAll credits at 15 credits per teacher.

This is one rung of the Leadership Ladder

Every level from aspiring leader to the boardroom has its own readiness assessment — its own research base, scoring model and verdict report. Wherever you are now, and wherever you are heading next, there is a rung that measures it.

Methodology: Measures applied classroom judgment through original situational items keyed to published evidence: the classroom-management meta-analyses (Marzano, Marzano & Pickering, 2003; Korpershoek et al., 2016), Kounin's withitness and lesson-momentum findings (1970), the routines and first-weeks research of Emmer, Evertson & Anderson (1980), teacher-student relationship effects (Cornelius-White, 2007; Hattie, 2009), the interpersonal teacher-behaviour circumplex on which the Teaching Wheel's two axes are based (Wubbels & Brekelmans, 2005; adapted from Leary, 1957), school-wide positive behaviour support (Sugai & Horner, 2002), praise-to-reprimand ratio research (Caldarella et al., 2020), de-escalation and the acting-out cycle (Colvin & Scott, 2015), restorative practice outcomes (Gregory, Clawson, Davis & Gerewitz, 2016), wait-time research (Rowe, 1974), teacher self-efficacy theory for the self-check subscale (Tschannen-Moran & Woolfolk Hoy, 2001 — constructs only, original items), and the family-engagement framework of Epstein (2001). Teaching Wheel is an original scoring design: each option carries a steering (agency) weight and a warmth (communion) weight aggregated separately from the quality key, with a Prevention Index from proactive-versus-reactive option weights.
