Ready for Placement Week

Placement season runs as a process, not as a test. You are filtered on an application, watched in a group discussion, timed in an aptitude or technical round, and asked about yourself by somebody from HR. Being good at one of those does not carry you through the others, because each round can end the process on its own. This assessment puts you inside all four in one sitting of forty exercises. Thirty-two of them are decisions: which company to apply to when you miss one stated criterion by two marks, what to do when nobody opens the group discussion, whether to answer a question you have narrowed to two options on a paper with negative marking, and what to say when an interviewer asks why they should hire you and you have not prepared an answer. Every option is something a real candidate does, and the difference between them is degree rather than right and wrong. Afterwards you are asked, round by round, how well you think you did. That second reading is the one most candidates have never had: the gap between how ready a person feels and how they answered. Scoring is a stage-gate composite rather than an average. Your four rounds are combined the way a selection process combines them, so the weakest round carries most of the weight and a strong round cannot cover for it, and each round enters the composite in proportion to how much its own reliability can carry. Both of those weights are printed on your report, along with the reliability of every part and the standard error of the headline figure. Your report is a corridor of four gates, drawn to the width each round has earned, with the gate that binds marked. It does not predict whether you will get an offer, and it does not measure intelligence, employability or worth.
