# What is Prioritisation & Focus?

Prioritisation and Focus is choosing what matters most and explicitly dropping what does not. The visible half is the list of priorities. The half that decides whether it works is the stop list — what a team is told, out loud, that it may now do badly, later, or not at all.

<!-- #levels -->
## What prioritisation & focus looks like at four levels

- **Developing (0–39)** — You may be treating too many things as important at once, which spreads your team thin and stalls breakthroughs. The discipline of choosing the vital few — and explicitly stopping the rest — is what creates real progress.
- **Emerging (40–59)** — You prioritise but struggle to actually stop things, so the list only grows. The growth is in the stop-doing list, not just the to-do list.
- **Strong (60–79)** — You concentrate effort on the few things that matter most and can clearly name what you're choosing not to do.
- **Exceptional (80–100)** — You ruthlessly focus force on the vital few, make the trade-offs visible, and protect your team's attention from the urgent-but-unimportant.

<!-- #anti-signals -->
## Signs it is missing

- Everything is a priority, so sequencing is decided by whoever asked most recently.
- New work is added continuously and nothing is ever removed.
- The team is busy, on time, and delivering things nobody needed.

<!-- #evidence -->
## Evidence to look for

- What is on your stop list this quarter, and who did you have to tell?
- If you could only deliver one thing this quarter, which is it and why?
- Tell me about work you killed. What did it free up?

<!-- #develop -->
## How to develop it

- Name the two or three things that matter most this quarter — and the things you'll explicitly stop or pause to fund them.
- Before adding work, ask what comes off the list to make room.
- Make your team's priorities visible so the trade-offs are shared, not hidden.
