# What is Execution Discipline?

Execution Discipline is turning intent into reliable delivery: the follow-through, the cadence of review, and the closing of loops that turns a decision into a shipped result. It is the least glamorous competency in the framework and the one whose absence shows up most plainly in a team's track record.

<!-- #levels -->
## What execution discipline looks like at four levels

- **Developing (0–39)** — Good intentions and plans aren't yet consistently turning into delivered results. Closing the gap between deciding and doing — through follow-through and accountability rhythms — is the opportunity.
- **Emerging (40–59)** — You deliver but with some slippage and inconsistency. The growth is in the rhythms and follow-through that make delivery reliable.
- **Strong (60–79)** — You turn plans into delivered outcomes consistently, with clear ownership and the follow-through that closes the last mile.
- **Exceptional (80–100)** — You make reliable delivery a team trait — clear commitments, light-touch tracking, and the discipline to finish, so the team is trusted to do what it says.

<!-- #anti-signals -->
## Signs it is missing

- Decisions are made in meetings and no one can say later what was decided or by whom.
- Delivery depends on a heroic push at the end of every cycle.
- Actions are recorded and never reviewed, so the list becomes archaeology.

<!-- #evidence -->
## Evidence to look for

- How do decisions in your team get from the meeting to done? Walk me through the mechanism.
- What is your review cadence, and what happens in it when something is off track?
- Tell me about a commitment your team missed. What was the mechanism that failed?

<!-- #develop -->
## How to develop it

- For your next commitment, define who owns it, by when, and how you'll know it's done.
- Install one short weekly check on the few things that must move.
- Close one lingering 'nearly done' item fully before starting something new.
